I have been looking online for a moth database for identification but couldn't find any. Does anybody know of one?

I got a photo of this weird fella when running around long grasslands with Sunny, Khew, the twins and Janet(?) looking for red flash.

Searched high and low on internet can't find a name for this funny looking thing. :P

Scarly it's not a moth... hmmmm..

Actually you're right. It isn't a moth. It's one of those leaf hoppers. I think our young Einstein, Aaron Soh, will be able to shed some light on it when he comes in.

BTW, it's JAYNE. But I'll leave her to kill you when we next meet. :bsmile:

Ellen,

Plenty of those on the hostplant of the Common Red Flash.

Perhaps The Moths of Borneo site Checklist and color plated (http://www.mothsofborneo.com/part-3/checklist.php) might be of help.

Ricania sp. (Moth bug - Hemiptera: Fulgoroidea, Ricaniidae)

The closest you'll get to a moth checklist for Singapore is but sifting through the entries in the Moths of Borneo http://www.mothsofborneo.com and combining it with entries from my thesis http://sunzi1.lib.hku.hk/hkuto/record/B30278831 that have Singapore included in their distribution. Would take you a few weeks I suspect. Once your list is prepared, then it's a case of surfing through lots of different websites - for Japan, Taiwan, Borneo, Thailand & Hong Kong (Flickr / my website / Yahoo / HKWildlife.net) and this forum as well.

cheers, Roger.
