Need your help

I went to a check on a new area today, as 2 of my original survey sites have been dug up for development! I came across the attached, which, while I think I know what they are, I need confirmation, as if I am right, then it will be a +3 for my list. I will not say what I think they are as it might prejudice your own thoughts. I apologise for the quality of the photos, but they would not let me near, and I don't have a zoom lens at present.

I have doubts of #3 being an Abisara Kausambi

Basing on the followings.

1.fore wing discal patch is very diffused.

2. hind wing is pointed and flared.... a characteristic of the female Plum Judy observed many times in the field and recorded

My bet is #3 is a Female Abisara saturata kausambioides (Malayan Plum Judy)

Interesting! I have already found A. saturata maya here, and now a second subspecies? How varied is the white apical/subapical patch? In my specimen the dark postdiscal line is uninterrupted. I think I need to find some more specimens!

Base on the upperside shots that you have (I assumed the 2 photos belong to same specimen), we can tell that this is a female, as the upperside of male A. saturata is dark & the upperside marking of male A. kausambi is not as clear.

Thanks SC for No2. I had sort of come to that conclusion this afternoon. Disappointing for me, already on my list! I only had a brief glimpse of the underside, and my defective eyesight made me think it was something different. Never mind.

Sunny, definately female, but my specimen shows certain differences from both contenders.

#1 looks more like a female malay baron, since the photo has lost much of the details. I prefer such ID should be left unknown :whistle:

I have noticed that you are going around the forum making off-handed identification of both butterflies and moths posted , without annotating why you believe them to be XXXX specis.

Any suggested identification in this forum should be supported by a description of what you perceived as the distinguishing features, markings , color that set it apart from others. And where possible reference should also be made to reputable publications or journals to substantiate your identification.

Please refrain from posting from pure "guts feel" or what you "Think" it is!
