<<76-1: This shot was fired when the advanced party got contacted and called for long range arty support. >>

the C750 machine gun is so powerful and as a result his one has got a gunshot wound at it eye :bsmile: and is still bleeding! Images are abit over exposed for the bigg's shots.

I like the last shot of the arhopala sp taking off, can't help with the ID though!

Hi Neo,

The purple duke is well taken.
I knew you will be the one who will eventually take the flying shots.
Good timing.

:hello: Hi.

Actually it was just a lucky shot. The truth is, I got the focus when it was perching; when I pressed the shutter, it decided to take flight.

RB: Cannot lie, otherwise they ask me to shoot flying butterflies, then I will :stupid:

The unknown Arhopala sp. was taken at USR at 12:52, after the encounter with the female Malay Baron. Any of you got a shot and with positive id?

Not easy to ID Arhopalas from field shots. Even with a collection, it's still not easy. Take a look at the ID key in C&P4. It's quite mind boggling. :stupid:

Thanks gng (= guys and gals).

Yong San, I have collected most of the common species. The remaining are uncommon, rare or forest species. On paper, it sounds easy mathematically, 1 species per week. In practice, I think it will be  . Have to visit the reserves more often now, which provide better chances of getting new species. Anyway, that's just target. I will keep on shooting ... until I am cure. ;P

Btw, how many species have u collected? ;P

Bel, that's the best time! Every outing, you will come back with something new! Not like me... I'd be happy to get a new species once every 6 months!

Ya, I am not competing either. Agree with Simon, going to the Nature Reserve more often as a form of exercise and butts-shooting you will be rewarded with more species and fresh lungs.

For me, for each new addition that I snap, it gives me an opportunity to id it (very often I got it wrong). That is the thrill in it. More so if my shots are photographically good.

yah loh Bel, I agree with Khew, this is the best time, even going to AH and combing it up and down a couple of times will yield new species for u. Very gratifying wan!! And of coz once you graduate to Sime and the other forests, :what: Can u imagine EVERYTHING i shot on the last outing to Chestnut/USR was new to me?

Elbowed Pierrot
12-Aug-2004, 06:31 PM
YL, wasn't Sime the same? ;-)

can after that, you will be grateful to get a new species every 6mths like khew ;P :bsmile: or instead of walking through trails/tracks/man made dirt roads.. u can try bashing through forest

for a start, AH certainly pack enough species to spoilt a photographer.. you just need to find and shoot them

Actually the question was directed to Yong San.

Anyway, 8 is a good number. Like what the rest have said, it is "honeymoon" time! Every trip has a very high probability of bringing back new species. After the "honeymoon" period, you will to spend more time and more patience to find new "surprises".

Now I'm planning to go to AH to try and snap the last remaining Imperial after seeing and 'hearing' so much about it.. ;-)
