*starts a new thread as steathily as possible* ;-)

Good that this should appear at this moment!

Sorry folks, no Asian butts or moths from me right now. But just to share nevertheless...

A moth flew into my housemate's room last night, and started quite a fuss (ie. yelling and ducking). It was 'the Herald', Scoliopteryx libatrix. One of the commoner moths in Britain, and almost always one of the first to be seen in spring, hence the name. The adult emerges from the cocoon in late summer, and spends the winter hibernating (overwintering) indoors.

Presenting... my first British moth of the year!

And also to herald in this new subforum.

(Btw, still coming to grips with my new Tamron 90. Advice would be appreciated!)

Not quite all over the World, Fluorite - it's a northern hemisphere temperate & warm temperate species that can also be found in mountain zones in the sub-tropics (Himalayas, East Asia, N.Africa). There is some thought that it may be an exotic species in N.America (http://www.hmana.org/mothpix/exotics.htm, and http://www.inspection.gc.ca/english/sci/lab/cpqp/9798origine.shtml).

hope this helps.

cheers,

Roger.
