  :hmmm:

A pretty challenging one, this skipper. At a glance, the forewing shape looks like one of the Bibasis spp. - probably B. sena. But taking a closer look, it may not be, as the legs are not orange-yellow like B. sena.

That spot at the forewing is rather strange. Wonder if it's a "scar" rather than a characteristic marking of this species.

I'd put it under one of our "Mystery" collection for the time being. Unless I have a specimen to examine, it cannot be confirmed with a field shot like this. The tornal part of the hindwings are also broken, making ID even more difficult.

Hello Mr. Khew,
Thank you for the time to look at this skipper.
I took this photo about a year ago, and can't possibly has the specimen.
In addition, I think it is illegal to catch any butterflies in Singapore.

Oh, a year back already. It's illegal to capture any butterflies in the nature reserves and on State Land. If it's in your own garden, it's not illegal lah...

Anyway, I have a research permit from NParks to collect in limited numbers. Without a voucher specimen, some species can never be identified, and all we can do is look at the photo, and wonder what it actually is. So that won't help us ID the species.

This skipper really has a big head and a short abdomen, and looks fat.

Hasora schoenherr gaspa or H. Vitta??
Came across them when surfing the WWW.
Don't think they are indigenous here.

Thanks Dr. Kalesh for the confirmed ID.

Any idea why the yellow band on the hindwing became white in my photo ?
Due to ageing or white-balance of my camera ?
