At Ubin yesterday, the elusive Common Jay decided to play hide-and-seek with us again, at the usual location. :prrr: None of us got a good shot of it, since it was zipping to and fro, and stopped in the most inaccessible locations. Here's a record shot of it.

Interestingly, this species is relatively common in Malaysia, and in the photo below of several Papilionidae puddling, you can see a Common Jay (extreme left) and a Blue Jay, together with a Common Bluebottle and several Five Bar Swordtails.

Yup... decided to make a trip there. Was with CP, Boon Seng and CP's colleague. Nothing much though... just hot and windy.

Noticed that some of these butts are name "common" in some region, but in fact are not that common in others. They should have indicated the country code to avoid misunderstandings :bsmile:

The names were probably given by the ang-moh collectors who encountered these species in the early days when some of these species were indeed common. So it's always relative...

E.g. if someone were to 'discover' the Common Imperial at AH the past few weeks, they won't be too wrong if they assumed that this species is "common". ;P
