View Full Version : Possibly Monodontides musina?

Image from Doi Lang, northern Thailand. I actually took the photo in August 2011, and had originally identified it as
Lestranicus transpectus. But that now looks incorrect. The heavy pale edges to the underside spots would be a feature of Celastrina lavendularis, but several features are not correct including the arch of 4 distinct spots and the lower base of the hindwing.
Seems to match Monodontides musina. Thoughts please.

Yes it is Monodontides musina.

The three species are rather similar.

Celastrina lavendularis :HW without a spot at the base of space 1b (where the crescent spot is); FW topmost postdiscal spot 9 shifted further in from the spot below.

Lestranicus transpectus. HW with a basal spot in space 1b. FW postidscal spots close together; whitish see-through; cilia checkered.
