Dr. Seow ,

My deduction , please correct me if I am wrong:

Possibly a Pelopidas or a Borbo cinnara

There are 3 species of Pelopidas here in Singapore , P.conjunctus, P. assamensi and P.Mathias.

We can rule out P. conjunctus as the base color is of a darker brown, the P. assamensi was ruled out too as it is at least 1.5 times that of a P. mathias.

That left P. Mathias, this species also frequently have very small or insignificant hindwing basal spot or a Borbo cinnara

cheers!

Right most of the way, Sunny.
Borbo cinnara can be ruled by its ochreous or dull yellow-brown underside with a strong greenish tinge. Body hairs are also greenish.

Looks like P. mathias with the cellspot obsolete.
However, to be sure, do you have another shot with the antennae in focus.
Parnara antennae have very short apiculi. They are also very short especially in P. bada. The other 2 have almost comparable antennae to P. mathias.
P. mathias.

This is quite tricky, but I think you have the female of Parnara ganga.
The apiculus looks very small & abrupt joining the club, but there is a small possibility of distortion due to the angle of the shot.

Comparing with the female of P. mathias here(Federick's) & that in the Checklist, the shape of the hindwing is different, ie the upper margin (costa) of the hindwing is shorter than that of P. mathias, which is as should be for Parnara ganga.(P. apostata is rather dark.)

If you have a slightly top view the taper of the apiculi, abrupt or gradual with be noticeable, ie compare with the upperside shot of P. mathias in the Checklist. If so, this should remove all doubts.

Unfortunately no!!

Looks like I will have to revisit the place ....

Actually there is a prominent upper cellspot visible on the forewing meaning it is not Parnara, as none of the Parnara here have an upper cellspot.
The white hyaline spots especially on the forewing are white which mean it is not P. conjunctus which have the spots yellow.

It looks like it is back to Pelopidas mathias.

Final coorection : Female Borbo cinnara.

Looks like your suggestion was right from the start, Sunny.

The female just do not look like P. mathias, from the shape & coarsely-stippled colouration.

A comparison shows the side of the abdomen is brown, same colour as the hindwing ground colour in the female B. cinnara.

In the P. mathias female the side of the abdomen is dark grey which is different from the hindwing ground colour.

Also seen in the female in the checklist.

The green tinge & hair of B. cinnara are less strong in the female & less obvious when worn & in photos.
I noticed the post 1 pic actually shows some greenish tinge.

It would seem the best ID guide on the underside is hindwing no cellspot and the three main spots in space 2 , 3, & 6. Seeing a green tinge is a bonus.
Another female with 4 spots
