Rosalind found this cat at AH a few days back and asked me what it is.

It looks to like a Lycaenidae cat. Today I saw 2 similar cats again at AH, feeding on Cinnamon leaves. It is definitely not Common Imperial. Wonder which butterfly is this :hmmm: .

Hi Gan,

Reared this cat few years ago. It belongs to a Day-flying moth with black and metallic blue wing colour, resembling the Striped Blue Crow. Can't remember the name as no moth-reference with me.

TSI see. Not sure if I should be happy or sad. Happy that I finally know how the cat of this lovely moth looks like. Sad that this is not an unidentified Lycaenid.

Does it spins its cocoon on the leaf ?

I think it does spin a cocoon on leaves.

The cat was parasited

Anyway the name of the moth is Pompelon marginata from the ZYGAENIDAE (Burnet Moths) family

How do one check if the caterpillar has been parasited? :-)

One of the symptoms - it just turns black and dies. ;P

How do one check if the caterpillar has been parasited? :-)Usually you will find white or brown colour cocoons/pupae sticking onto the body or on the 'ground' and the caterpillar turning black and smelly :prrr:

What's the last picture? a bundle of cocoons residing inside a caterpillar body? the picture is abit too small. ;P

PS: 20 more species to clear.

These are cocoons that came out from the cat. The cat has fallen off the leaf.

Finally managed to breed the cat till pupation.

- Pupa inside the cocoon

- Just emerged. Notice part of the pupa case is outside the cocoon.
